We were responsible for the design, planning, and production of “Sumu Wall,” the original furniture for guest rooms at “Sumu Ueno East,” an experimental apartment hotel in Higashi-Ueno, Tokyo.

For floors 2–4, under the supervision of Culture Convenience Club Co., Ltd., and for floors 5–8, under the supervision of Whatever Co., we designed and produced the furniture while respecting each company’s design concept for Sumu and prioritizing usability as hotel furnishings.

For the 9th and 10th floors, we aimed to embody our vision of Sumu by creating furniture that allows guests to travel as if they were living there. We sought to balance the feel of a hotel with the comfort of everyday life, developing and designing everything from hardware to panels from scratch.

Driven by our desire to connect guests with local people, things, and experiences through their stay at Sumu, we focused primarily on local and ethical materials sourced within Japan.
We sought to express the sense of the extraordinary inherent in a stay, along with the charm of living in Japan, through the unique textures and hues of these materials, aiming to create furniture that becomes an integral part of the new lodging experience born from living at Sumu.
